Broseley Ceilidh
Broseley has a strong history of links with the folk arts. The Ironmen and Severn Gilders morris dance teams were started by mainly Broseley residents in about 1976 as a revival of a morris tradition that stretches back hundreds of years in this area and the Birchmeadow is home to a strong group of Irish style musicians.
Broseley is also the home of All Blacked Up, now one of the countries best known English Ceilidh bands and at the bands beginning all of the members of All Blacked Up lived within the town - which made rehearsing easy! Nowadays things are not quite as convenient but ABU come home in September to play at the Birchmeadow.
Broseley Ceilidhs are run by Alistair Gillies who has lived in Broseley for 25 years, and who plays in All Blacked Up, and the other bands in this series are Fidget Pie, a new 3 piece band also with Alistair playing [it’s cheaper that way!!] and Ceilidhography who are a new, mostly Shropshire, band with a growing reputation.
We welcome families, beginners, in fact everyone, and you will find that the Birchmeadow has a very relaxed atmosphere and we have a policy of keeping the prices very reasonable which means that the bands accept that their fee will reflect the turn-out of dancers - so PLEASE make this a must do event - the numbers have been great for previous ceilidhs….. so lets look forward to this year - and if you wish to listen the bands before hand please look at these links:
