A very sad loss for Broseley…
A long-serving Bridgnorth district councillor known as the “face of Broseley” today died while on holiday in Wales.
Councillor Roy Lane, 68, died this morning. Fellow councillors have paid tribute to a man they say will be greatly missed.
Councillor Lane, a trustee of the Lady Forrester Daycare and Residential Centre in Broseley, was honoured with an MBE in 2002 for his work with local government and the community.
Mayor of Broseley, Councillor Ian Pickles, today said: “Broseley Town Council is devastated by the loss of a friend and fellow councillor.
“Roy was an extremely dedicated member of the town and district council as well as a former county councillor.
“His vast experience and calm approach will be a huge loss to us. On a personal note I will miss Roy’s vast and sensible advice. Roy was in every sense a true Broseley man. The town will be a poorer place without him.
“The thoughts of the council are with his family at this sad time.
Broseley town and county councillor, Jean Jones, added: “I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that Roy Lane was the public face of Broseley.
“He was a wonderful selfless public servant and a great champion for our town. Personally I’ve lost a valued colleague, a mentor and a much loved friend.”
Councillor Lane was chairman of the housing and environment committee and was a Bridgnorth district councillor for the Broseley West ward. An independent councillor, he joined the district council in 1974 clocking up 33 years.
Eleanor Harris, spokeswoman for the district council, said: “We are aware that Councillor Lane has passed away and everyone is shocked and saddened by his death.”
Ploughman’s lunch at Victoria Hall Saturday September 1st 12-2 (3.50 GBP)
to raise funds for the Flying Doctor Appeal for the Air Ambulance run
by the Mayor and members of Broseley Town Council. There will be the
lunch, raffle for a Fifty pound Tesco voucher, cake stall, tombola and
bookstall.
Parking in Broseley
Broseley Town Council have advised the County Council that if the
proposal for restricting the parking times in the parking bays in
Broseley goes ahead we want the time limit to be 1 hour rather than
the propsosed 40 minutes.
Many Thanks Ian!

The sessions are designed to give help on a one to one basis to any one who would like to be able to search the internet, set up an email address and send emails but doesn’t know how. In order to use a PC on a regular basis it is necessary to be a library member. To become a memeber just pop into the library with evidence of current address - under 16 year olds will need parental consent to use the library computers.
