Broseley Cinema

Broseley Cinema works hard to show good films on the third Tuesday of every month - and we are rewarded with appreciative audiences.
But we always want more.
So, we warmly welcome newcomers from Broseley, Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth, Madeley, Shifnal or Telford (from anywhere, in fact) who want to…
1 - support local activities
2 - watch on a big screen in an informal setting
3 - meet and to chat with others… socialise
4 - get a free tea/coffee in the afternoon, or use the (low prices) bar in the evening
On Tuesday November 17th at both 2:30 and at 8:00 we have the wonderfully successful film British , Billy Elliot
(110 mins : UK : 2000 : cert 15)
Come and enjoy the acting, the strength of the story, the great use of camera, the fabulous ending, and by no means least, the dancing.
It’s 1984 in northern England, and the miners are on strike – the atmosphere is tense. Eleven year old Billy’s dad and brother are actively involved in the strike. His mum’s not there to support him, having died some time back. His nan’s losing all awareness of what’s going on.
Billy doesn’t really like the boxing lessons he’s having to do, being much more impressed by the sight of the girls doing ballet. But when the men at home learn about his unusual choice of activity, he’s in trouble.
However, being strongly supported by the ballet teacher (played superbly by Julie Walters), he keeps his training secret, whilst the work and home situations both get worse. Convinced of his ability, she manages to get him an audition for the Royal Ballet School, but he now has to open his heart to his family … they hate it … will he make it?
